Recruitment

Experienced Practitioners

We welcome approaches to join these Chambers from those with relevant experience. These may be members of the Bar wishing to move from their present chambers or from solicitors wishing to transfer to the Bar.

The Head of Chambers is always happy to discuss with such individuals, in confidence, their interest in these Chambers.

Pupillage

One Chancery pupillage, either practising or non-practising, is available at any one time. The offer made will be of a non-practising 6 month pupillage, commencing in October of the following year, which may be extended for a further 6 month practising pupillage on satisfactory completion of the first 6 month pupillage.

Funded up to £20,000 for 12 months, pro rata.

There are currently no third six month pupillage available.

The Head of pupillage is Mr. Martin Young.

The closing date for applications is 5.00pm on Friday 28th September 2012.

Chambers' Pupillage Application form for the period 2013/2014 can be downloaded here (word format).

Chambers’ Pupillage Policy can be downloaded here (pdf format)

Mini Pupillage

We are pleased to offer to those considering a career at the Bar a limited number of places for ‘mini-pupillage’; a short period of work experience, usually lasting 3 days. The purposes of mini-pupillage at 9 Stone Buildings are to afford an invaluable insight into the work of a barrister in general and into commercial chancery practice in particular, as well as providing an opportunity to ask questions of practising barristers. Though the diverse nature of work at the Bar means that no two mini-pupillages can be the same, we will endeavour to give each mini-pupil some experience of both court and paper work.

It is not a pre-requisite to a successful application that the candidate has read or is reading law. However, applicants should normally have reached at least their second year of undergraduate study. Mini-pupillages here are neither formally assessed, nor are they a pre-condition to pupillage. Applications, which must be marked “Mini-Pupillage Application”, are by way of curriculum vitae and covering letter. They may be sent to Chambers by post, fax or email. Candidates might wish to bear in mind that, although applications are considered all year round, the summer period tends to fill up a few months in advance.

The Member of Chambers in charge of mini pupillage is Mr Rory Brown and applications for mini pupillage should be addressed to him.

All mini-pupils are required to sign a declaration of confidentiality on arrival in Chambers.
